Lights on...9/11 please read!

So, I got this email message:

“PLEASE forward this email to everyone in your address book asking them
to also forward it. Please join us on 9/11. We have over two weeks to get
the word out all across this great land we love and call the United
States of America
. Let's see how powerful e-mail can be!

On Tuesday, September 11, 2007 everyone in the USA who
will be driving a motor vehicle is asked to drive with their headlights
on during daylight hours. Though no explanation is needed as to why we
are commemorating September 11, we hope more importantly to pay
respect to the victims of that day, show our nation's solidarity and
show support for our men and women of the Armed Forces.
You can help by sending this e-mail on to others!

REMEMBER!

LIGHTS ON.....9/11”

Umm…not to toot my own horn or shot out “hey look at me!”, but I’ve been doing this since 9/11/2002.  I actually try to do this on other days that I feel this should be done.  Memorial Day, Pearl Harbor Day, etc.  Now, I’ll admit that I don’t always remember to do this.  But ever since I’ve been driving, if I remember, I have always turned on my lights as a remembrance on those special days that should not be forgotten.

This email almost makes me wonder if that idea is dying out?  I don’t remember where I got it from, but it was something that I’ve always known to do.  I wonder if this younger generation wasn’t taught about things like this?  Or maybe they just don’t care?  Either way, I’m pretty surprised to see this email.  I am hoping that this is the exception, and not the rule.  I would really hate to see such a simple act as respect and remembrance be forgotten in the coming generations.
